Shoot somebody: collect $250,000

I guess this was a "Pass 'Go'" card, huh? Sounds like a plan - every time!. Sure to put down stupid suits.
A south-central Kansas mechanic who was shot has been ordered to pay at least $250,000 to the man who shot him.
A jury in Sedgwick County issued the verdict Thursday in a civil case that came 18 months after a jury in a criminal trial found that the shooter had acted in self-defense.
Keith McGinley, a small-engine repairman, was shot in October 2003. He sued the shooter, Dan Herpolsheimer, of Mulvane. Herpolsheimer then filed a countersuit for battery and trespassing, saying that McGinley had attacked him and ordered him out of his home, then pulled a knife. Herpolsheimer said he then shot McGinley with a .357 Magnum.
Besides the quarter million he gets for pain, suffering and mental anguish, Herpolsheimer will now be allowed to seek another $500,000 in punitive damages.

Perhaps. If they made his lawyer pay it, that would be sure to cut down on frivolous suits.

Must be a hell of a mechanic. Who's going to hold their breath till it's paid. You can't get blood from a turnip. Sure he might be paying a payment a month. But he won't have to pay it in one lump sum.

Nice! Wasn't expecting that counterclaim, now was he?

But good luck collecting.

the quarter million he gets
that should say, the quarter million he has a right to try to get through post-judgment collection efforts. Huge difference.

Yeah, lets just hope that it doesn't drive the mechanic into a fit of rage which makes him return to finish the job he had started! Man, I bet getting shot with a 357 kinda puts a damper on your day huh?

Hahaha! Must not been in Commiefornia though!

Good for him; he made $250,000 by using his gun; more than competition shooters could ever dream of making with just a couple of shots!
