1911 in CA

You won't be able to buy a 1911 in CA after this week, so buy low and sell high.

Maybe a little explanation should have been added to that blanket statement.

Got a link that backs up that statement?

The state of CA made it a law that new handguns needed to have an indicater near the chamber that would pop out if the gun were Hot (loaded in chamber). Colt decided not to redesign the gun so they are pulling it from CA. You can still buy them used.

Not sure on the details-- I just bought a new shotgun and was told this while at the counter. It came up after I asked about the PX4 - they had no idea if it was on the DOJ. At that point someone said "speaking of the DOJ, when is the final day you can buy the 1911?".. the answer 1 week. I ask why and they told me about DOJ required modifications and how the 1911 manufacturer said, screw that, and took the gun off the CA market.

Don't know why they said a week in the Shop, but here's what I found:

•_SB 489 (Load Indicator and Magazine Safety Disconnect, by Sen. Jack Scott): Would require most semiautomatic pistols that are newly designed after Jan. 1, 2006, to have a clearly understood load indicator or a magazine safety disconnect. By Jan. 1, 2007, most newly designed pistols would have to have both devices. Handguns that are already approved for sale in California (on the roster before Jan. 1, 2005) would be exempt until/unless they were redesigned.

I can tell you why they said 1 week....to create a false sense of urgency and make un-informed people buy as many 1911's in their shop as possible. Where the hell is this store...so I can NOT ever go there.

Didn't massachusets already make a similar law regarding a chamber indicator?

"...pistols that are newly designed after Jan. 1, 2006..." This says it applies to newly designed pistols. Has nothing to do with a 1911. The 1911 and 1911A1 were both designed long before 2006.
You'll find that gun shops are rumour mills. Especially from part time guys. Not everybody working in gun shops reads as much or as well as they should.
