AR Configuration

Would you recomend getting an AR-15 with a flat-top upper with a detachable carry handle or an A2 upper? I am just wondering which would be the best option.

I have 3 AR's. Two with the A2 and one with the A3 upper. I prefer the flat top A3 bucause it is alot more versitle. You can mount the carryhandle, a tri-rail scopemount or co-witness with a scope and pop-up rear sight. Lots of possibilities.

What Obiwan says. Ditch the handle, go flattop and mount an ACOG.

I have two flattops and an A2. My AR with the A2 carry handle is an M16A2 clone (20" with gov't profile skinny barrel under the handguards.) Otherwise, it would be flattop as well!

Both flattops are 16" barrels (one M4 profile, one HBAR.) One has a compact scope and the other has an Eotech. Both have flip-up back-up iron sights (BUIS.)

It's a lot of fun to shoot with your iron sights, but that's why they make the removeable carry handle! The only thing you're giving up is the 800M zero. The removeable carry handle just can't adjust as much as the fixed A2. No biggie in my opinion...

I've only used and owned A2 style ARs... however I'm looking at putting together my own and I kind of like the UTE2 style upper receiver that RRA is putting out... it looks like the best of both worlds, imo.
