Primer pick up tubes on 550B

Hi guys,

I have just put a new tip on the primer pick up tube. The old one was so worn it wouldn't hold primers in.

The new tip works great, except when I dump primers in the magazine, one or two hang in the plastic tip.

I am ultra careful when handling primers, so I don't give in to the tendency to push them out with a paper clip or something.

If you have had this problem how do you handle it ? Am I just too paranoid in handling primers ?

They all do. No big whoop.

Either leave them in there or push them out with the little clip.

I have the low primer sensor on mine and I use the plastic rod to push the primes all of the way down and leave it in there while they load. Then I pull the rod out and load another batch so that I have 200 rnds ready to go at a whack.

I also use the long plastic primer rod to push down any stubborn ones. It's easy and safe. I have 7 or 8 tubes loaded up with primers when loading large batches of ammo. Always remember to put the clip back in the empties immediately after dumping them into the primer feed tube. I've forgotten more than once and spent time picking them up off the floor. Bet some of you have, too.

mines always done the same thing. Some times just tapping the outside will get them to drop with out issue.

I use the plastic rod too. Push the stuck primers through, then I leave it in there while I pull the pin and make sure it drops right through.

Never had a problem with it, except when I forgot to replace the pin...

Small primers roll a lot further than large ones.

Great idea on using the rod to fill the tube. I never thunk of it! My problem is every now and then I get one or two upside down. I could see were using the rod as a follower would make for a nice smooth fow into the tube.

I KNEW I wasn't the only one! My record for finding the dumped primers is 98 %.

Maybe I've just been lucky, but I have always pushed the last 1 or 2 primers out with a hex wrench just a little smaller in diameter than the primer. Just a gentle push has always worked.

Been doing this on RCBS and Dillon stuff for 30 or so years. YMMV

Haven't foregot the pin yet, knock on wood, but really anything will work to push them down. There isn't much holding them in place friction wise.
