Oy ve!
Assuming you have kept the feet fit to eat, save the bones from the meal. Roast the bones. Scrubb the feet, then singe over a flame or electric burner on high. Boil all with a chopped carrot and stalk of celery with the leaves, salt, pepper, and herbs you like. Use the broth to make pilaf, stew, soup, stuffing, or gravy.
The difference between real chicken soup and the thin, insipid imitations most Americans know is the feet. The same applies to pheasant, grouse, quail, and turkey. You will be amazed. Check the recipes at http://fooddownunder.com Your Jewish/Yiddish and Asian cookbooks will also help.

When I was a kid, we used to hold the leg near the ankle, and pull the leg tendon, which would operate the foot into a clawing action. It was good for a scream..........

OK, how about this? Fold all the toes except the longest middle one inward & superglue 'em in place - leave the longest one extended. Tape it to the radio antenna of your truck and make a statement!
How is the hunting around Hays? Thin pickins here in the SW corner but they can be found.

lol...i kinda like that idea for my antena-definitly be a "statement" haha
SK-we were ona special youth pheasant hunt at cedar bluff this past weekend, sponsered by pheasants forever-hays chapter, and we walked these fields on a reserve (wild life and parks was in on it), we walked fields for about..2 hours, saw a rooster and a hen, all flew up at least 50 yards away, and with about..7 dogs in our group, and around 15 people-7 shooters or so, finally we found some and we found ALOT, about 20 roosters i would guess, alot flew away down the beach, several flew OVER the lake, haha, scared by all the shots im guessing, and we dropped 3 in the group, and we walked down the beach and got several more, about 4 i think, we had a few dogs that kept getting too far out in front and pushing them to fly up ahead of us, but overal, it was fun, i got my first pheasant too, but ive heard the numbers arent great here, but when u find them, you get alot |
