Yeah, if your barrel is spinning, you MAY have issues.

You mean barrel spin=twist rate?
"...1:10 til 89..." 1987 depending on who you ask. Supposedly some 1 in 7's made in 1986 too. 1 in 7 after 1987 with some 1 in 9 in 1997. http://sunflowerammo.blogspot.com/20...ist-rates.html Mini-14's are inaccurate because of the design, the mediocre, light, whippy barrel, crappy triggers, not the weight of the bullet used. You're really best to check it yourself. Put a lubed patch on your jag, mark the rod at the muzzle(has to be from there) and the top of the handle. Run the patch through the barrel for one complete turn of the handle dot and mark the muzzle again. The distance between the dots is your twist.

T. O' Heir thank you. Did the test and I have 1:9 barrel twist. It was made in 1984 and is pretty accurate - not AR accurate but not bad at all. The accustrut helped alot.

strut
Hey, so you have an Accustrut on your rifle? Now that is interesting. Which model strut? Can you post before and after group pics?
I have toyed with the idea of a short strut on my Mini30, but the price runs me off. |

There are different companys that make a barrel strut devices for the minis. I did not know there were different models of the accustrut , so I guess mine is an early one. I cant do pics but with the strut it does not string shots as much as it did with the un-strutted "spaghetti" barrel. It helped a noticeable amount.

struts
Accustrut is a brand name of course, and they sell different models. I am not current on exactly what they offer at present, but there was a one time a longer, sort of original model, then they released a shorter, more compact model. There may be other Accustrut models as well at this time.
Glad your Mini is doing better. |
