If you could only pick one weapon from each category...
If you had to choose only one weapon from each category, assuming your life depended on it and the world went to hell, which would you choose?

When SHTF, I'd want to keep it simple.
Too many guns and other supportive stuff would probably have be abandoned. If it's war, then one semi auto AR type in .308. And one larger caliber high capacity pistol, something easy to find parts for. If it was more survival, then a lever action rifle with a revolver in the same caliber. Like .44 Mag. No mags to lose. And probably a pump 12 gauge, too. That's all.

I tend to agree with g.willikers, travel light and keep it simple, my M1A Scout (VLTOR Modstock on the way) and Colt 1911 would be my go to's and I would hope Id have a buddy to carry my AK74 clone and Mossberg 590A1.
However my picks from each category would be as follows- Pistol- Colt 1911 .45 SMG- UMP45 Battle Rifle- M1A EBR HMG- Ma Deuce (would've picked an M60E4 LMG but the M2 is pretty much the king of Heavy MGs) Sniper- McMillan TAC50 Shotgun- Mossberg 590A1 Special Purpose- Mk32 6 shot 40mm grenade launcher (Mk19 is heavy and a jammomatic) Edit- forgot shotgun Getting more into the employment of said weapons systems I would want a vehicle mounted fireteam. The Ma Deuce would have to be Vic mounted to be worth it's weight, the persons with the Sniper rifle and Grenade launcher would have to have sidearms (whenever we patrolled with the Mk32 that person always had an M9). The shotgun would stay in the truck unless a door needed to be breached and the UMP would be used by the Ma Deuce operator since that person would spend most of his time in the truck.

2. Sub-machine gun - HK MP7 3. Assault/Battle rifle - SCAR 17s .308 4. Heavy machine gun - M60 purely to be funny. Special Purpose - Ruger 10/22 w/ suppressor #7 is the most important gun to have out of all of them. In real life with no worry about Ammo, etc? Single shot 22 caliber rifle with 22 shorts loaded for quiet lethality. I will pick and choose from the remains of all the Rambo's so I won't know whats available till they kill each other off.
Keeping quiet, head low and butt lower makes more sense then carrying enough weapons to arm an infantry squad.

Given that you set this up as a world-gone-to-hell, no access to parts, repairs, or new guns question, my picks focus on availability, reliability, and usefulness.
The categories: Pistol Sub-machine gun Assault/Battle rifle Heavy machine gun Sniper rifle Shotgun Special Purpose Here's my list: Beretta 92A1 (9x19mm) HK MP5 (9x19mm) M4 Carbine (5.56x45mm & .223 Remington) M2 Browning (.50 BMG) M40 [Accurized Remington Model 700] (.308 Winchester) Remington 870 Marine Magnum [Nickel-Plated] (12 Gauge) Ruger 10/22 All-Weather Stainless Forced to go on the run, I'd take the Beretta 92 and the 10/22. Forced to pick a single one, I'd pick the 10/22 and a handful of BX-25 magazines.

With Availability of weapons considered
Okay I'll play, but assuming the world has gone to hell then ammo and parts availability have to be put into consideration:
Pistol : FNP-45 Submachinegun : HK or MKE MP5K Assault/Battle rifle : Gas Piston AR (full auto); UDMC PVAR Heavy machine gun : M240 Sniper rifle : Accuracy International AW in .338 Lapua Magnum Shotgun : Mossberg 500 Special Purpose : Rail-attachable 40mm Underbarrel Grenade Launcher (for AR) I chose the following because they are all man-portable. And although I'd prefer the MG be mounted on a vehicle, if I ran out of gas or my ride got busted, me or someone else can take it off and go on foot. |
