Mossberg Mavrick 88 With Tang Safety
Hey all, I'm new to the forums, so if I've posted in the wrong area I apologize, but I've got a question, and I'm hoping for some input.
I was at a local gun show here in TN yesterday, and I picked up a NIB 18.5 inch, 5 shot, HD shotgun which was labeled as a Mavrick 88 on the price tag, but it has the standard "Made in USA by Mossberg" sticker on it that you typically see on the 500's 590's etc.. When I got it home I started to really look it over and noticed that it has the tang safety which threw me a little bit. I thought all of the mavrick's had the cross bolt safety which cut down on machine costs, but I thought maybe this was something new they were doing? Any thoughts? I'm wondering if I picked up a 500 which was marked wrong, or got stuck in the wrong box, is there any other way to tell them apart? |

Well what do the receiver markings say?
Maverick's have: "Model 88" and "Maverick by Mossberg" stamped on the left side of the receiver. The Mossberg 500 is going to have it's identity stamped somewhere too. Both have the yellow and blue Mossberg sticker on the buttstock when new. Last edited by TxGun; July 27, 2009 at 11:48 AM. |

TX
TX, I'll check on that tonight when I'm home from work. It honestly just hit me when I was at work today that something didn't seem right about the mavrick having the Tang safety. Now I can't wait to get home and give it a good lookin over. I'll try to post some pictures tonight as well for some added input.

Flip the gun over and look at the bottom of the reciever between loading gate and magazine tube. If it says "Mossberg 500" there..........well, there ya go.........
