Grips for Security Six
Howdy all,
Looking for some recommendations on a Roper or Skelton type grip for a Security Six. Looking for it to fill the gap beneath the trigger guard in the rear, without being bulky like a target style grip. A link with pics would be great. Thanks for the help. |

Hogue has an excellent (rubber) grip for the Security Six. I have one on mine and it works great!

Thanks for the reply willr.
I've got a set of the Hogue grips, a little too big and grippy for my liking, was hoping someone knew of a maker of Jordan or Roper style wood grips for these. |

You might check Eagle (www.eaglegrips.com I think). Sounds like you want their "oversize" style. I have sets of both their "classic" and oversize styles on different revolvers, and the oversize seems much closer to the old Roper style.

Hey there AKMike,
Thanks for the link, i just checked it out, and I have to ask, what is the difference between the classic and oversize styles? Looks like the oversize might be a little fuller and longer in the bottom of the grip, is this your experience by having both styles? |

For many years, my 4 inch SS Security Six
has Pachmayr Professional Grippers on it. Finger grooves and an open back strap. They also make one called the Gripper with a closed back strap, that's a little bigger. http://www.lymanproducts.com/pachmayr/index.htm |

You might want to consider a Tyler T-grip. The company is still making them for the Six series guns.

My security six never fit my hand right until I picked up a set of Packmeyer Presentations about 25 years back ...

The only Pachmayrs I've ever liked. Great narrow feel with rubber inlet. I think they have been discontinued. These are the only ones I've seen. Got 'em for 12 bucks NIW.

I would suggest looking for some Herrets. They show up on Ebay every now and then.

I picked these up from CDNN for less than $10. They are very very comfortable without being bulky.

The factory "Target" grips are some of the best in my opinion. They are extremely hard to find these days, but are my favorites after trying Pachmayr, Hogue (wood and rubber), Eagle Secret Service, Mustang and factory small grips with the Tyler adapter.

I have tried Hogue rubber grips on S&W J,K and L frame and Colt I frame , none of these guns are wearing Hogue grips now. On my Ruger Security Six I like the Pachmayr Presentation grips.

All this is good info unless you have a 150,000 series gun.

Actually, it's pretty easy to adapt a set of Pachmayers to a 150-series.
The grip indexing pin at the bottom of the grip frame is in a different location, so you need to drill new locator holes inside the grips. I bought a 150-series Speed-Six that had a set of Pachmayer grippers on it that was nearly seamless, except for the gap at the top of the grips. You have to be careful to drill through the metal liner without the drill walking, but it's pretty easy. The new owner has Herrets on it, and they arent 150-series grips. Now, they could use some bedding compound in the gap to make sure the grips don't crack eventually, but it's perfectly serviceable. |

Well this thread is about a month old but I know what looking for "six" grips is like.
Much to my surprise the $6.00 "Checkered rubber target grips" from CDNN are some of the most comfortable and natural I've put on my "sixes". http://www.cdnninvestments.com/rubsecsixsqu1.html I also like the way the walnut ones look on my stainless, but I did have to sand in the top finger groove a bit, it was too shallow for my hands and kept knocking my knuckle against the trigger guard when fired. Still a bit of sanding and some birchwood-casey "Tru-oil" and you'd never know I did any mods to the grips. http://www.cdnninvestments.com/woodsecsixch.html Here's the pair in rubber and wood. |
