Weaver and Bushnell scopes

I have a chance to get 4-16 x 40 Weaver or Bushnell scope at a good price. How is the quality? I know its not Leopold or Swarvoski. Are they better than a Simmons. I am putting it on a 30-06 Mauser. Is W better than B or are they one in the same?

The Weaver Classic V16 4-16X40 is a great scope, made in Japan, have eight of them mostly with the 1/8 inch dot and a few with a fine crosshair for PD shooting.

I have 2 Bushnell variable power Elite 3200s and 3 Bushnell Elite 4200s amassed over the past 8 -10 years. Two are 4-15 (one 40mm and one 50 mm) and the three 4200s are 6-24x40mm. They have been mounted on calibers up to .30-06 and have performed beautifully. No problems with any of the Elite scopes. I bought the 3200s first and liked them so much that I bought the 3 4200s on sale when Bushnell closed out the 3200/4200 brands and renamed them. I don't regret that decision. My Leupolds are a bit brighter but I don't notice the difference once I get behind a scope.

I once bought a Bushnell Banner because it was a cheap way to see if I wanted to move to higher magnifications with my .22 rifles. I didn't like it quite as well as the Elites and is now sitting in a drawer. I don't think that would be a good choice over the long run.

I also have 3 Weaver T-36 fixed power scopes. These target scopes have much more reticle adjustment range than the variables and are great when you have to adjust for low powered .22LRs that you want to shoot at 100 yards and beyond. Two have been mostly mounted on my target .22LRs but one has been moved around from a .223 and a .308 and they perform well. I only use scopes with that much magnification when I am trying to really test out new potentially accurate loads from 100 to 200 yards and don't want to mess with a spoting scope to see the bullet holes.
The Weaver scopes also have performed well but are a bit less bright (probably because they have such high magnification).
I can't comment on the Weaver variable scopes.

Funny, I bought a Weaver Super Slam 2X10X50 EBX for my 7mm08 project rifle and liked it so much I put another one on my .243 Predator. My Precision Carbine wears a Bushnell 4200 2.5X10X50 as well. I prefer both of these to the Leupold VXIII's that I own. I don't think you'll go wrong with either of them.

i got the Weaver 40/44 series 3x9x40 on my Savage an i love it an it makes the rifle look complete with that scope on it.

I have a Bushnell Banner 6 x 18 50mm that is an excellent scope. Bright, clear and holds its zero very well. Honestly, it isn't the greatest scope around, but for the money I paid for it, I was very happy with it and it served me for a lot of years.

When I finally replaced it on my 7mm, it wasn't because the scoped failed me, but I wanted a 3 x 9 and an upgrade.

I have no experience with Weaver.

I've got a weaver 3x9x38 variable that has been on a remy 700 for about 20 years..........I've also used banners. I believe the weaver is a superior piece but bushnell has a spectrum of scope quality.............

the weavers seem to sell around 150 and the bushnells vary by model......

but those weavers are tough. Eye relief is probably shorter (depending on model) on the weaver and that banner has a 6 inch eye relief model......

personally, I prefer weaver but prefer redfield and leupold. I just got a nikon prostaff and will see how that goes...........on a savage 308.....

I guess 20 years is a long time

I agree about the Elites. I put them against any of my Leupolds. The only advantage I can find with Leupold is that most have more eye relief than the Elites. Not a big deal to me unless I'm scoping a hard kicking magnum!

I have not owned a Weaver, but I have Bushnell Banner scope 3-9x40 with the 6-inch eye relief. It's mounted on my 5.56 AR15 and its a great scope. The glass is very clear and the magnification is clear all the way up to the maximum magnification. The 6inch eye relief is fantastic too.

Simmons does not have a stellar reputation for quality. Yes, they are better than a Simmons.
