Primer feed tube interchangeability
Does anybody know if RCBS and Dillon primer tubes are interchangeable?

For 100% sure? I'm currently ordering a Dillon press and their primer feed tubes are a lot cheaper then the RCBS.

I can't answer your question, but to clarify you're talking about the tube in the machine and not the pickup tube. Right?

Yeah, if you are talking about the pickup tube, 100 is 100.
If you are talking about the tube on the machine, forget it. You have enough chance of problems without making a frankinloader, stick with the right part. Even Dillons are different for different machines. |

You're buying a good press .... just buy all the components from Dillon as well ...and quit penny pinching it ...( or you'll regret it ) ...
I've had a 650 with a case feeder for 5 yrs or so ...and its a great machine ... |

A good many years ago when I started loading in large quantities, I decided I needed more than 1 or 2 primer tubes. I purchased some .312 outside diameter aluminum tube the same ID as RCBS primer tubes and made myself about 20 large and 20 small primer tubes. I use these tubes in my RCBS Autoprime and in my Dillon 550 interchangably. If there are different primer tubes for different Dillon presses, I wasn't aware of that. Check your Dillon tubes and see if they measure .312 OD. If so, they interchange.

Big Jim, my friend, so there's no other confusion, when you said, "…just buy all the components from Dillon as well…," I presume you were referring to loader parts and accessories, not reloading components. |

The only primer tube like a 650's is one for a 650. Even all of the other dillons use different tubes.

Yes, Zippy ....my apology ...../ thanks for catching that ...
( buy Dillon parts and accessories from Dillon / and use Dillon parts and accessories on Dillon presses ) in my opinion. |

The reason I ask is I want to order a bunch of tubes from Dillon for use in my press and my RCBS bench mounted primer. I haven't got my press in the mail yet. Planning on getting the case feeder sometime down the road too.
medalguy: What did you do about the plastic deal at the end to hen-peck the primers with? Wood |

I had the aluminum tubes cut with a cross-cut about 1/2 inch long (think of an X looking at the tube end-on) and very lightly bent 2 sides in to hold the primers in the tube. These have worked very well for nearly 30 years.
