maverick 88..pls help

Hey, Ijust picked up a maverick 88 today. It was "used" from a pawn shop. It looks as though it has never been fired, so I have no clue as to the age. Anyways my point is, on the pump there is only one rod that goes to the extractor. There is no way to add one because the receiver only has a cut out for one, but the pump will receive two. The maverick web site advertises it having two, all the pics I have looked up have two. Is it possible this shot gun slipped past inspection or is it an older model. Will this give me problems, and do you think mossberg would fix this issue.....at the price of free

I thought that the Maverick only had one extractor vs dual extractors of the Mossberg 500 models.
I'd call Mossberg (phone number is available I'm sure from their website, mossberg.com) and with your serial number ready, sure you'll get the scoop from them as to whether or not you should have dual extractors.

I had one about 15 yrs ago, if memory serves, it only had one. Great gun though, wish I never sold it. I never had any problems with it. Unlike the Winchester I replaced it with.

I have a Maverick (2 bar version) that shoots every bit as good as any Remington or Winchester pump I've ever used. Mine has an 18.5 in barrel and stays loaded up with 00 Buck. I trust it as much as any gun I own. Enjoy it.

The early 88s had a single action bar. The newer ones have two. Yours is fine...don't worry about it.

hey, thanks alot...at first i felt swindled alot...though i feel much better about the reliabiity of my new gun, i still paid 200 for it...argh i should have shopped around. Oh well im happy with it, and i assume it's an ounce or two lighter than a newer dual extractor, haha

Brand new, Persuader's go for $269. although their website has it listed for $259. , perhaps it varies some from store to store?

thats ok, because It has never been fired (till i got it anyways). Als I just got back from walmart, i looked at a new mossberg 500, and this "older" maverick 88 is much nicer than a new hate to say it, cheap looking 500. With all the help i got here and the research i have done on my own, i would have gladly given a little more. When i do get my 500 it will be an older model.

That's OK, I just paid $279 for a used Mossberg 500 pump with an 18inch security barrel. For around the same money with a little shopping around, I could have bought a new one. I liked the gun and it looks like it'd been used very little so jumped on it before researching enough.
Luckily, I was able to find a real nice, clean 28inch vent-rib, ported barrel with removable choke tubes for only $40 at a local pawn shop so now my Mossy can serve double duty as home security, trap gun, sporting clays, bird hunting.
I'm not sure but I think Mav88's use the same barrel as the Mossberg 500. Look around, you may be able to find some nice barrels for it.
Next, I'm gonna look for a rifled slug barrel with sights on it.

Yes the maverick crosses out to 500 Mossberg. So accu-chokes and various lengths as well as scoped rifled barrel or smoth slug barrel with rifle sights is viable.

its probably an older version of the mav, but also i dont think they've updated their site much lately either.
