Replacing extractor on CZ P-07

The last two times I've shot my P-07 it's suddenly developed an FTE problem. It's happened with two brands of ammo, and with all three of my magazines. So I'm guessing there's something wrong with the extractor. Is anyone familiar with how difficult this part is to replace? Or could it be other things? I'm guessing I've put around 6K flawless rounds through the gun before it started suddenly.

I've cleaned it regularly and as thoroughly as I can -- I've never detail stripped or detail cleaned it.

I've been thinking about blowing money on Cajun Gun Works mods, so maybe this is a good excuse to send in the gun and have them make it awesome while they're fixing the extractor issue

Any advice? Is there anything I could look for to visually confirm a problem with the extractor?

Just to be clear we're talking failure to extract not failure to eject, right?

Yes, the brass remains in the chamber and I end up with the next round jammed up behind it, requiring a magazine removal and manual racking of the slide.

Gotcha.

I don't remember the pin setup on the P-07 but it's an external extractor and shouldn't be hard to remove. Looks like there might be a roll pin going from top to bottom where the extractor sits and my guess is that's what holds it in. You should be able to drive it out.

Unless the extractor appears physically damaged you might be able to just replace the spring. 6k rounds might be enough to wear it out.

Yes, I routinely scrub the parts I can reach with solvent and a brush.

You might just need to remove it and clean the whole “mechanism” so to speak. You could have some gunk in the spring channel area.

You'll have to forgive my ignorance on gunsmithing -- I'm assuming you're talking about the recoil spring, correct?

The extractor has a spring. That's how it functions, it flexes and then returns to its original position.

cslinger is talking about removing the extractor pivot pin, extractor and extractor spring. Then cleaning out the slide where the extractor sits, the spring and extractor and its pin. Reassemble.

Which IMO is a very good place to start. I do a full slide disassemble every 1k rds on my Glocks and even then I find decent carbon build up.

What ammo were you using?

Have you used the same ammo before without any issues?

How often would you say it is happening?

Is the chamber clean?

Extractor spring may be broken. Send the firearm to Cajun and ask them to replace that part too. Is the claw itself chipped? Have you contacted CZ-USA?

I mean detail strip and clean after every firing.

To me that's excessive. A detail strip and clean means every part out of the slide and the frame. If you shoot every week or multiple times a week that's a lot of part removal. I'll go out on a limb and say that much part removal is more likely to result in wear or moreso a lost part than simply using the firearm.
