Covering Stamping

Ok so Sorry for the question but here goes. I have Mauser action that I am building a 243 bench rifle out of. There are a few stamps on the gun I would like to grind off or cover up. The main thing is the fact is there 7.62 on the top of it in very large print. The gun will not be chambered in that round. Any advice would helpful. BTW this is the 1st time have built something like this, and I KNOW I cannot do this around the serial number.

You can "grind" the markings off with a belt sander, then finish it off by wrapping finer and finer abrasive cloth around a flat file and polishing it to a final finish.

Stamps in areas hard to reach are best removed with the file and abrasive cloth method to prevent slipping and damaging the surrounding areas.
