Can sabot slugs be fired in a non rifled barrel? Can regular slugs I call pumpkin balls be fired in a rifled barrel?
thanks Curious |

Yes on both. I am not sure you'd get good accuracy though.

As a loose rule, sabots work best in fully rifled bbls, standard slugs and Brennekes in smothbores and rifled tubes.

Is it totally safe tp fire sabots in a smoothe barrel or must some kind of care be exercised. I heard stories about the wads or liners staying in the barrel. My gun does pretty well at 30yds with slugs (haven't had a chance to try farther).

I'd be inclined to do it only in modern guns with fairly open chokes, if at all.
If your choke runs Modified or less, go ahead.... |
