SR9 MM case split
These two happened back to back.
The good thing is that no Kaboom occurred. Very little recoil had to check barrel to make sure it was clear. Proceeded to shoot 2 more mags without issues. One split and one did not, both bulged. 9MM, 4.6gr W231, 124gr JHP,range brass. Last edited by Red Dog; February 11, 2013 at 11:24 AM. |

looks almost like 9mm that were loaded into a 40 cal chamber. it may be possible that it was just bad brass that was intentionally left by someone that had already reloaded it several times and knew it was starting to wear out.

I have two questions that sound dumb but bear asking... Did the cases eject from the pistol? If so, and you were shooting at a public range, are you certain that's YOUR brass? I've found some pretty scary stuff on the ground at public ranges before.

WAIT A MINUTE HERE !!! A case CANNOT expend that much unless it is shot in a chamber that big. NO HOW NO WAY. It has to have the room to expand. Now, tell us the rest of the story.

I'm kindof agreeing with wil terry and would reiterate the questions asked by chris, there should be no reason that a casing would expand that much out of any 9mm chamber. I have been with a friend who rented a 40 cal and the range gave him 9mm ammo for it, much of his brass looked like that but never failed to fire and with the exception of crappy accuracy he had no idea that anything was wrong until I pointed out his brass. you may have just gotten the same stall as someone that had made that very same mistake. and didn't do a good job cleaning up his brass.

Are you saying that I may have loaded 9mm into my 40 mag?
After thinking about it. I can't rule that out. I was shooting both of them that day. It does make sense.... I was thinking overcharge.... but no Kaboom... hhhmmm |
