Abetterbelt usa hands down the best belts and customer service.. i got two three belts for price of one and never asked for the two free ones they sent me... couldn't be more satisfied...

Worth poking around Walmart, Target, etc. I've found some very solid belts there, and you get to see exactly what you're getting, unlike mail order. If your definition of 'dress belt' is fairly broad, you can also look in Lowes, Home Depot, Sears etc in the tool belt section.

Unless it's a very a lightweight pistol I don't think dress belts are adequate. A lot of them are just two thin strips of leather with a strip of cardboard in between.

A real gun belt should be at least a quarter in thick, and as tall as your belt loops and holster will accept.

I think it's kind of the same thing with holsters. If you're going to carry anything it should be in a durable, fitted holster with good retention, and not some universal nylon sleeve thing from wal-mart.

Then again, I mostly just carry for bear and bear guns tend to be heavy.

Living here in No. Indiana's Amish Country, I get mine from an Amish custom saddle maker. Any belt I want from top grain leather, any color with my choice of buckle for $15-$20 bucks.

I have a couple of these -

They are bridle leather and are stiff enough to support a holster. Buckles are secured with rivets. Very good quality all around.
