I'm thinking its best to listen to Mr. Ross.

I'm going to try to get to W&W this Sunday but I'm only bringing my '06 with me. I just got done building my gun room and I am going to do some re-organizing of my reloading stuff.

Let's hold out until January.

In the mean time you guys are free to shoot your guns without me at any time.

Nice to hear from somebody over on 'the other side' of the State.

Florida I think.........

This website is just somewhat of a Rally Point for most of us. We generally like the Staff and Membership here more than most other boards. BTW If you guys like this board thank the Staff, especially, Rich Lucibella and Marko Kloos. I have nothing to do with this board other than dwell on it.

I am a Moderator on the rifle boards over at www.amback.com which merged with www.battlerifles.com but I still think of this place as home.

I generaly like to keep one message board per personal interest. And this site seems to fill my Firearms interest.

Anyways, back to the topic; back to the range!

Mr Ross!!!

Jeez....I have become the grumpy old fart of the TFL PA militia.

How about that PGC range near your friends cabin. After hunting season you can reserve the ranges for group use. Or another PGC range perhaps? One more centrally located.

Hey guys:

What about a little Rifleman's Challenge? We could shoot Fred's quick and dirty AQT at 25m, kick in $5/head, best score gets a prize (case of Port?). No one would have to, but it would be a way to mix it up a bit.

See http://www.fredsm14stocks.com/rifle.asp?ITEM=1

I'd contribute the targets and the prize.

Whaddya think?
I find this to be an attractive offer! I like to do a little gambling; and I love riflery. The only proviso I would have is that the playing field has to be, more or less, level.

No tack driving, bull barreled rifles with dial-in, 'astronomy scopes' on top. And, oh, one other thing: I get to shoot Hosman's new $2,000.00 Garand M-1! (It's OK, Jose; you can use my crappy old DCM gun.)

It does sound fun but I've never shot my M1A further than 100 yards and then only from a bench. I would need a coach to help with the 200 & 300 yard stuff.
You'd be hard pressed to find a less experienced rifle dude than me.

Funny you should say that! I’m a rifle coach; and I’d be glad to give a few free pointers to anyone who’ll be shooting against me in a prize money match. For instance, did you know that the world’s best riflemen, all, squint? That’s right, they do!

Another thing: If you want to really shoot straight, all you have to do is aim with the eye opposite to the one you normally use. ‘Why’, you might ask? Simple! Because, whatever the distance, your non-dominant eye has none of the old problems you’re used to overcoming in order to hit the target, dead center.

One other thing, I’ll offer a free scope sight-in service for all competitors immediately prior to the match. It’s a lot of extra work for me; but, if it’ll help to get any of my good shooting buddies right on target, fast, I’ll be glad to do it.

(By the way, how much money do you think we’ll be shooting for, anyway?)

Maybe around 11am.

I'm hopefully going to reload a ton of 30/06 tonight and then do some long range group comparisons. I gotta settle on a bullet weight for the bolt action.

Might bring my AR, also.

It might be a little later than 11am. Probable closer to 11:30 since my friend Steve might be coming along.

Judging by what I've been finding out about W&W, that gun club might be our next meeting place. I'm going to try and get out to that place sometime in the next couple weeks/months.

Anyone been there?

It looks like its about the same distance from me that W&W is.

I've shot here, and that outdoor rifle range should read 50 to 600 yards, not 60. It's very nice, and if W&W closes there's a good chance I'll join NHR&PC.

Do they allow people to just show up and shoot? Or do you need to be a member?

Any rules or regulations we need to be aware of?

You need to be a member or the guest of a member.

I'll try to get more info from a friend who belongs.

Hey guys:

Any movement towards a date?

Also, the "Rifleman's Challenge" that I would suggest is that everyone who wants to kicks in enuf $ (5-10) so that the cost of the Port to the donor is free (AIM sells it now for $160). So 10 shooters = $16, 30 = $5.50, etc.

Rules I'd propose would be simple:
- no scopes (fellas, we're at 25m/82 feet)
- slings can be used in all positions, but are not required
- standing: 10 rds/2 mins
- seated/kneeling: for the two targets in this stage on the Fred QDAQT (Quick and Dirty Army Qualification Target), 50 seconds, start from standing loaded w/ two rounds, at whistle drop to seated/kneel, fire two rounds at left target, change mag/new mag w/ 8 rounds, 3 more shots at left target, 5 shots at right target.
- prone/rapid: same drill as above, only 60 seconds, drop to prone, three shots on each of the first two targets in this stage, with four shots into the final target
-prone slow: start in prone, 10 shots, 5 minutes, 2 shots in each of the two left targets, 3 shots in each of the two right targets
- "Thutty cal" rule: bullet hole, if sized up to .30 for you 5.56 shooters, if touching score line gets the higher score
- Winner/high score takes the case of ammo

I'll bet I can get Fred to kick in the targets; if not, I'll supply them.

Finally, for the gent that has never shot beyond 100m and has never gotten off the bench, I cannot recommend highly enough the Rifleman's Guides and Target Pacs from Fred:

http://www.fredsm14stocks.com/catalog/acc.asp

Until July, I too had never been in prone or seated positions, and never shot beyond 100. Using the Guide and the 25m training concept, I have gotten to where I can reliably (not every time, but a lot) hit head and shoulder targets at 400 and beyond with iron sights and 45 year old eyes. 300 and closer, they are kaput -- every time.

You can do it too!

PS: For real fun, come to the Hungarian Revolution shoot next weekend. See the post in this forum!

With all the stuff I have going on right now I don't think I'll have time to organize anything until Late January or February. I think we'll have another big one in March or April, but we have to wait and see what goes on at W&W first. I'd really like to check out the New Holland gun club before I set any new plans. I'm personally a little tired of having to worry about all the "little" stuff that W&W doesn't get done unless I pressure them.

We don't need a big range for these Gatherings but we need to have it just to ourselves and have no restrictions on magazine capacity or any dopey rules like that.

Anyone buying land anytime soon?
