Removal of bluing on a custom piece
Hey guys, I know that bluing is a low end rust prevention application, but would I be asking for trouble if I remove it? I have a CVA .36 caliber that I chose to be a custom project. I refinished the grips to a beautiful ice white, topped that off with six coats of a high end clear glaze, and chopped the barrel to 2 1/2 inches. The next step is changing the finish on the frame, cylinder and barrel. I think the mild steel (underneath the bluing) would look great. Any ideas?

It will look ok and wont rust if you keep it oiled.

Or you can brown it or French gray it.

Raw steel definitely rusts more easily than blued steel.
Just keep it oiled. Steve |
