50 yd Zero carry handle questions.

Hello! I recently came by a Rock River upper with a fixed rear sight. My experience with carry handles is very limited, I've come up to speed but after searching and searching I can not find a procedure for a true 50 yd Zero with a carry handle style sight. To top it off the sight has an 8/3 as opposed to 6/3 even thought it's a 16" barrel.

Does anyone have a simple procedure for a simple Santose improved battlesight zero at 50 yards using these particular ironsights? Specifically what position the dial should be in when zeroing. Anyone know why Rock River used an 8/3 instead of a 6/3 on these? Thanks all!

There are methods to adjust the sight to get closer zeros, while allowing the use of the ranging turret.

I know there is a 100yd one. Not sure about 50yds.

Now you can crank the turret so the rear sight sits flush against the main body, and just zero there... But the turret markings will be incorrect of course.

The 3/6 is for detachable carry handles, and the 3/8 is usually for fixed rear sights.

There may be a few cases where this doesn't hold true though.

AR15 dot com has a few threads about alternate carry handles setups.

HERE is a link to instructions on getting a 100yd zero point. It also works for 50yds as well.

Another method is to adjust the sight only the clicks needed for 50yds. Basically, for 100yds you need three clicks Bellow the 8/3 setting, and two clicks below for 50yds.

The original A2 sights are (optimistically) 8/3. When they made detachable carry handles, the screw had to be shorter to accomodate the mounting base, so those sights are 6/3. As marine6680 noted, just drop the drum two clicks from the 200 setting and you have the 50yd zero and the range drum still works (less the top two range settings)
