Walther PP from Ulm

Looking at a PP from Ulm, in above-average shape (probably 7 out of 10) with a good barrel still. $495. Someone refresh me on the quality of the Ulm produced ones, been a while since I researched the PP family. Thanks!

From 1952 to 1986, the Walther PP was produced under contract by Manurhin in France. During that period, some of the final fitting, finishing, and testing was done in France (marked Manurhin) and some was done in Germany (marked Walther).

What caliber?

A Walther PP is certainly a great addition to one's collection. Do you know the year it was made, (visible on the barrel hood in the ejection port sometimes)?

All of the German/French made PP & PPK were made to exacting dimensions, metallurgy and finish so it is doubtful you will find a dud. $495 is not an unreasonable price for such a pistol.

This past week, I purchased a similar condition (maybe 7 to 8 out of 10) 1971 production .32 PP for $500. I think it was well worth the money. Leaps and bounds better than the S&W versions. The only negatives about mine are the lanyard loop (hate them) and the crappy aftermarket magazine it came with. Both were remedied by an order from Numrich.

Ughhh...

I own some German-made pistols that are superb (West German-marked SIGs and Ulm-made Walthers among them).

But I've encountered plenty of German-made guns that are borderline garbage (SIG Mosquitos, Armenius "Saturday Night Specials," and anything made by Umarex - be it marked Walther or not.)

The Germans are like anyone else. They build to a required level of quality/design for a particular product. Some levels are better than others.

No. Likely 1964-1965. See the date chart link.

Thanks, PSP. As it turns out, it IS 64 (mark on the barrel). Barrel appears great, deep rifling - but the bluing appears to have been touched up as it is a dullish blue. Not sure it is worth $495 now. Still contemplating it.
