Answer you didn't want - it all depends on what semi-automatic we're talking about.

Some I shot about four years ago wouid cycle my Browning BAR in .30-06 OK when it was warm.
In November when it was 10-15 degrees colder it wouldn't always.

I was shaking the .30-06 rounds, and comparing them with a fully loaded round.
Just by shaking them back and forth, there is a LOT LESS powder in the M.R. cartridge. and I paid double the price !!! The 7mm-08 M.R. rounds are no where to be found. I brought the last box of .30-06 M.R. rounds I could find anywhere. |

The auto action will manage the recoil fine. Use regular ammo and save your money.

That's a ridiculous statement, as you don't know I have a bad shoulder and bad neck.

I have a friend that took some of that managed recoil ammo to Anticosti Island on a hunt , big mistake , wouldn't cycle action of his 7400 Remington at all , stovepiped every round .

Sorry, Blur. Wouldn't have made such a ridiculous statement had you included your mechanical issues. I've got a bulging cercial disc. I bought bigger recoil pads to deal with the larger calibers, and bought a couple of 260s. Even in my Ruger Compact, the recoil is just a caress.

The Blur, not to hijack the thread, but I have to ask how you like your BAR Shorttrak in 7mm-08?

Also, I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone makes MR rounds in 7mm-08.

My mistake. Remington makes it, but it's not available.

I just fired the BAR short-track yesterday for the 1st time.
I'm not impressed with the removable magazine setup. took 8 rounds to dial it in with the bushnell scope. put a total of 10 rounds through it. The 7mm-08 does kick, even with the semi-auto.. It kicks more than my .243 bolt action. I wouldn't spend another $1200 on another BAR. But the 7mm-08 will do anything in north america, so it's a fine round. |
