6.2gr. Power Pistol pushing 115gr. FMJ...What are your thoughts?

The load data on Alliant Powder's site states 6.7gr for Power Pistol on a 115gr. FMJ at 1.120". I started down to about 6.2gr. It really packed a punch. Does anybody think I could drop .2-.4gr and still have good cycling? I know it's to each his own especially on the gun. But, I'm wondering if I can get away with dropping more than the usual 10% reduced load on a powder of this type.

I'm used to AA#2 and #5 powders for 9mm. But, I'm trying something different.

Any thoughts?

I don't use the 115gr but do the 124 with max charge - I like it. I use PP in my .380acp Browning w/102gr Golden Sabre also.

I compared the loads with UMC's factory ammo and Remington's Golden Saber self defense ammo and the felt recoil was more than the UMC, but just a bit less than the GS. I'll be shooting 600+ rounds next week and don't want to take a beating if I can get away with it.

A 10% reduction from the 6.7 gr max load would be about 6.0 gr. Why not try that and see how it feels?

In what pistol are you shooting these loads?

I use 5.7 gr. of PP behind 115 gr. plated Berry's bullets. It's noisy, but my XD cycles 100% of the time, and it's more accurate than any manufactured ammo I've used.

It's teetering just above 10%. I thought a slow powder pushing a light bullet to begin with might be a bit finicky. That's why I'm picking brains before I waste bullets, primers, powder, and time. This is my next plan of attack, though...

HK P30

This is good info for me in the future when I buy Berry's, but I don't think it will equate to the same recipe as FMJs. I do have XDs, so this will be in the back of my mind when the time comes for plated recipes...

I load 5.5gr PP, with 115gr fmj. Runs 1160 over the crony. Its reduced, but cycles all my 9mms, still clean

The 6.0gr loads feels like +P, and 6.7gr loads feel too hot.

What gun are you shootin'? I'm not concerned about making velocity numbers. I just want reliable feeding and decent accuracy without the +p felt recoil. So, 5.5gr works like a champ?

I run 6.2gr on a 115 JHP at 1.125 and it was nice and soft through a Sig 239.

Have you tried 6.2gr seated at like 1.130 with round nose FMJ ? If seating on the deeper side, you may be running at +P pressures depending on that brand of bullet. Alliant lists 1.120 as the MINIMUM OAL for their load data.

Also, make sure you are accounting for variation in your presses seating depth.

No. I lenghtened the OAL a bit to 1.130" last night with 6.0gr on some sample loads. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and I'll fire some tomorrow. You're right, the shorter the OAL, the higher the pressure curve...

I've shot this load in my CZ75, CZ75 compact, CZ P01, Sig 239, G19, XD9, G17, P11, without any issues. When working up a load with this powder, it was the most accurate

Load data: 5.5gr power pistol, 115gr Win flat base bullets, 1.155 oal, wsp, mixed brass.
Avg 1100fps out of my CZ compact, 44 degrees F.

Thanks, JDG. That gives me a good baseline to consider. Should see how they fly tomorrow.
