45-70 Rolling Block with Lee C457-500-F

I have a box of ammo loaded by a friend who has passed away. I pulled a bullet today to make sure what the component were. He has a 500g gas checked bullet over 40g of Benchmark which is within spec for a trapdoor load.

My issue is that upon inspection, only one round seems to be seated fully and crimped. I don't know if this was something he was doing and never finished or what to think.

Think I should seat them fully and crimp?

The fully seated and crimped round is 2.68" overall while the others are at 2.758.

Any thoughts?

Ok - I asked the question you were going to ask. Did I drop one in the chamber to see if it fit? Why yes - yes I did! After I posted the question. Better late than never!

It fit into the trapdoor fine, but it seems a little long for the rolling block. The action closed but it was stiff and left marks on the lead from the lands. The ogive profile is quite a bit different than the longer 520 grain bullets.
