Favorite Scope for Long Distance Varminting?

That's the question. We're talking 250 - 300 yards.

Best caliber for reliable accuracy and punch at that distance would be .204 Ruger....available in bolt guns or Les Baer AR

I used to long for the high dollar scopes- but the money gods haven't exactly smiled on me or others in my line of work. But, I did manage to stumble across the "Long Look Utopia". Mueller makes a freakin outstanding 8.5x25-44.

Seriously- it really IS a great scope and you get a whole lot more than what you pay for. I don't know what your financial state is- if you can afford the high dollar jobs, go for it. But, if you want a $500 scope, then check out the Mueller for the $160 ballpark.

After trying lots of different powered scopes for long range Chuck hunting over the years, I decided that the highest power that was useable during all times of the day was 14 power. With mirage during mid day, anything over 14X was unuseable.
So, a variable with power range up to 14x would be best, or a straight 14x if someone made one.
