I already own a 590A1 and am looking to buy a hunting shotgun to compliment it. Which Mossberg model provides the greatest degree of parts interchangeablility with the 590A1?

I contacted Mossberg on 590 part swapping. They said that 590 parts can't be used with 500/835 and vice versa. The only part that woks between the three is the stock.

Keifer -

Are sure you own the 590A1 and not the 590? If you own the A1, you can't interchange with any other model because the receiver is made differently to accept the thicker barrel of the A1. If you own the 590, you should be able to swich barrels with the 500. I'll gladly trade you my 590 for your 590A1. I'm serious.

The magazine cap on the 590 is completely different from the 500, therefore so are the barrels, magazines, etc.

Icopy - thanks, but no thanks. One of the things that attracted me to the A1 was how sturdy it was and the lack of plastic parts in the receiver. Well, I guess that means I'll go with the 835 - all other things being equal - although I sincerely doubt I'll ever use that last half inch of chamber. At least it's there if I ever decide to use it.

Thanks all.

One of the things that attracted me to the 500 is the availability of inexpensive barrels.
I picked up a 28" VR with polychoke for $75 at one gun show, and a 18.5"cyl bore for $65 at another. My 24" rifled & scoped slugster barrel came with it.
I'm always looking for interesting barrels for it, and I wonder about the blackpowder conversion barrel.
