springfield 1911 A-1 value

Im trying to upload a pic aswell, but its stainless with wood grip. It is stamped springfield armory 1974. It is in very good condition. Does anyone know a good asking price for this gun? thanks, Dan

your gun shows ILS keys in the pic, so it is unlikely to be a 1974 gun.
that is something fairly recent. like 94 and up or 2000 and up, can't remember.

it appears to be a stainless gi model, so the grips are wrong as well.
but can't see the sights to be sure.
could be a mil spec.
eitherway someone replace the grips.

NM or N on the serial number makes a difference to some buyers.

NM designates assembled in the US vs N built in brazil.

New ones seem to run around 700 right now. if they are still being sought after, you could easliy get new prices assuming in good shape. hard to tell from the picture. if it has idiot scratch or any other issues.

but again, depends on how much someone wants it right now.

That's the year the current Springfield started business.The didn't get into the 1911 game until late 80's.

Call Springfield and give them your serial #.They will tell you what you have and when it was made.

Some people prefer stainless, Springfield isn't making too many of the mil spec as of late, let alone stainless, no one has them in stock right now, timing might be right for a sell.

I'd ask for $850 but be ready to take any cash offer over $750ish. If trading in to gunshop expect $350-400ish. If auction, start bid at $750 and see what the market says. I'd expect $800ish, what with the pre-ban frenzy and shrinking dollar... unless you're selling to a good friend. Then maybe $650 where it should be if things today weren't so... bolloxed up.

Is it the big blocky squared off grip frame and dust cover or the later slimmer version? (wasn't that change about 2004?)

Appears to be a Mil-Spec. They came in a blue box, while the GI model came in a green box.

Or send them an email, that's what I did when I bought mine. They seemed very friendly and will be able to tell you anything you want to know about it.

I have this same gun, and I bought it last year. That box, brush, magazine/ look just like mine and keys*. Doubt it was made 1974, looks too clean.

Funny i have the exact same gun in post 2 but with a different low mount target sight and thin wood checkered grips.

In my earlier post I assumed you were "asking" for a "Sell" price. Stupid of me. There's "selling asking" and "buying asking"... and maybe a few in between, "trading asking", "trading down asking", "trading up asking" and "whatcha got to throw in, too boot" asking?

It is a Mil Spec and not a GI, grips aren't the original that came with it. You can tell by the rear sight, it is too big to be a GI and the ejection port comes too far down to be a GI. Pre frenzy prices, last summer I bought one for $600 NIB off Gunbroker, sold it for $550. Frenzy prices have that raised by close to $200 if not more, so figure $750-800 give or take.

I was "buying asking". I bought the gun, but no where on it said anything about 1974. Just 1911 A-1. Now I may be selling!
