Well Thunderhawk, Should I buy a 620 or the 686? are there any differences other than the barrel?

I think the barrel is the only difference. The 686 is a really nice gun, but then so is my 620. Both carry the S&W lifetime warranty, so it's just up to what you prefer. BTW, that satin finish takes on a really nice shine with Mothers Mag& Aluminum polish and an hour or two of rubbing!

The 686 is about 2oz heavier, and costs a little more. The 686 can be obtained in a 7-shot version, but at more extra cost, while the 620 is 7-shot at no extra cost. The 686 can be obtained in a variety of barrel lengths, unlike the 620.

This past weekend I traveled to a retired police officer's farm and shot paper targets, swinging targets, metal targets, and bowling pins. I shot my 620 and my 7 shot 2 1/2" 686. I'm not the greatest shot in the world, but I was shocked how well both guns performed. I knocked the pins down so easily that it appeared like I actually knew what I was doing. The far majority of the shots during the afternoon were done double action. Shooting the first four rounds in single action with my 620..the holes all connected. It was only 21 feet, but after looking closely at the target, I was ready to call it a day because I usually don't shoot this well. In double action, the 620 knocked down bowling pins "all over the place." Like them both equally.

DenPro, you're right, the 620 seems make it easy! I love mine.
