Federal Gold Medal Target or Eley Sport works well in my Model 41. For bragging rights, Federal Gold Medal Match.

Thanks. I just ordered 1000 rounds Federal Gold Medal Match from Midway.

Amazing how many brands they list, "Out of stock, no backorder."

Most of the guys on my pistol team who shoot 41s use CCI Standard Velocity. I shot a 41 for many years and found that it was very accurate with just about anything, but tended to be a bit fussy about feeding certain brands. Regular cleaning, even a bit of brushing out with an old toothbrush during a match, helped that quite a bit.

If you can get ahold of a box or two of the Aguila SV that CMP is currently selling for around $250/case, it's worth checking to see if it works well in your gun. If it does, it's probably the best deal around on target ammo. I'm currently competing with a Walther GSP which works great with it. I had my first alibi a few matches ago after shooting probably 10,000 rounds of the Aguila and I think it was likely my fault because I hadn't cleaned the gun for several months.

I have had good luck with my 41 with Federal Automatch 325 round boxes, which I use for plinking/practice. However, CCI SV and Eley Sport group a little bit better, so if I was competing I'd go with that. Wolf Match groups similarly as the Federal, but is more expensive. I've not tried the higher end ammo in my 41, but I don't compete.

Look into the Aguila brand. It is essentially Elley ammunition that is made in Mexico I believe. I shot it right next to some Elley Tenex and the groups were the same. It is considerably cheaper then any of the other "match" ammo.

Another vote for CCI standard velocity. This ammunition has worked well for me over the years in my Model 41. However, I'm going to try some CCI "Blazer" standard velocity ammuniton in my pistols once the weather warms up around here. I couldn't resist the price of $15.99 for 550 rounds being sold @ my lgs.

CCI Standard Velocity for practice, and CCI Green Tag for the serious work. Then again, I know a High Master Conventional Pistol shooter that uses CCI Standard Velocity for everything, including when he competes at Camp Perry.

Anything CCI works, federal automatch works in mine.

If you want to buy ammo so cheap that walmart loses money selling it to you check out the price matching article.

Best

I suggest that you buy a box of each of these already suggested types of .22s as well as some from Fiocchi, Lapua, SK Jagd, RWS and Wolf Match Extra.
Sit down and test them all. You will have a better sense of what works best in your Smith.
Pete
PS - we read about guns being different. They really are....barrel to barrel there are very definite differences.
I have two Falcon barrels for my High Standard. One will shoot CCI SV just fine; the other barrel, they barely chamber and jam frequently.
