Building a Competition grade rifle (SIGHTS)

Would it be possible to mount one of these front sights to a rifle with a bull barrel.

The rifle I was thinking of was Savage 10FP
I understand the barrel has to have mounts such as dovetail in many cases, but how would you actually install them?
And is there anything wrong with using an aperture sight on a 308 rifle?
recoil wise or something?
Rear aperture sight
Would the Beeman sight ($60-80) be ok for this purpose, or sights from that price range?

And about these sights, do you screw the target disk onto the aperture piece?

Im probably gonna end up using this on a 17 HMR rifle but...I'd like to know the possibility of doing it with something bigger.

thx

Never heard of Palma rifles huh? All .308 with aperture sights.

Savage actually makes a production Palma... and a RnR Design makes clamp-on front sights.

Cheers,

Ervin: The front sight can be fitted to your barrel with no problems, cutting the dovetail to get the right height for the sight can be tricky though.
The sights you've shown will work for informal target shooting, but repeatability of the adjustments would cause problems for serious competition.

Yep... repeatable micrometer precision don't come cheap I'm afraid.

You might try to find a used set.

e.g. there's a buy/swap/sell forum on..

http://www.nationalmatch.us

In my experience, match rifle owners tend to take care of their gear. You could probably find a set in very good condition at a decent price.
