NEI gone
Over the years I've purchased several NEI Handtools molds. Always made well and worked well. I went today to look up a bullet on their site and saw a notice that the operations VP Joel Fragoso (the guy making the molds, apparently) had passed away and Patty Melander has closed the doors and is looking for a buyer.
Sorry to see it go.

NEI had some great designs. Hopefully someone competent will be able to continue the business.

Just seems like the number of true craftsmen keeps declining
If you can't sell 20,000 of something, so few pick up the craft any more - not just in this context. What I do like, however, is the growing number of makerspace non-profits out there. The craftsmen & women are very much still out there - but they keep to themselves these days for a number of reasons not the least of which is the threat of litigation. |
