Background Check At The Ballot Box

Anti's are looking at state ballot initiatives as a means of passing universal background check laws.

Quote:
On Monday, proponents of universal background checks in Washington will announce their plan to launch a statewide initiative campaign that would require the collection of some 300,000 signatures, according to a person involved in the initiative planning who spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to pre-empt the official announcement.

Ballot measures may be an option elsewhere, too. Hildy Saizow, president of Arizonans for Gun Safety, said an initiative is one of the things the group will be considering as it reconsiders strategies. An organizer in Oregon was focused on the Legislature for now but wouldn't rule out a ballot measure in the future if lawmakers fail to pass a proposed bill there.

Sounds like a good way to encourage gun owners to get out and vote.

This is a sure fire way to find out about truth in polling registered voters who find this issue important to them.

It will never be over, with these folks. This was defeated in Olympia and Washington DC, state and national, now here it comes again.

As someone who lives in WA, and has to walk past a bunch of these profesional signature gatherers, all I can say is Crap. Just one more thing for these people to harass me about. There's a guy out here turning his 15 minutes into local stardom creating initiiatives. His latest one is making it a crime to tell these peopleto leave you alone in a raised voice after they harass you for the third time in a day and won't take the first two no's for an answer. On the bright side, that may be just enough to get people to drop it like it's hot.

This is one major reason why it would be good to get a stronger ruling from SCOTUS.

Protection against mob rule, and all.
