FYI; Case hardened Pietta 1858s on sale
Hey gang. Happened by Cabela's site yesterday and found the case hardened, checkered grip 1858s were on sale. At $220 they're less than I got my target and 5.5" 1858s for last summer. I'm not especially thrilled by case hardened stuff myself, but if I'd the bread laying around I might have to add this one to the collection.
Called customer service... the nice lady said they weren't privy to when the sale will end. Could be tomorrow. I hate when they do that. Totally uncool! The 12" brass framed 'Buffalo' 1858 is also marked down at $170. http://tinyurl.com/dankl2 PS: I feel a bit odd in that this is my 2nd post re: BP handguns on sale at Cabela's. I'm definitely not employed by them in any way. I just check their site now and then (tend to go straight to the BP section) and when I see a bargain I feel like spreading the word. Though if Mr. Cabela would like to cut me a check for posting about BP items on sale in this forum, I will entertain his offer! |

but stay tuned, you're gonna see those prices go lower yet it's about time, the CB BP pistols have been overpriced for a long time- people are just saying no to ginned up CB prices. |

No reason I can think of other than looks, I don't believe the origionals ever had casehardened frames or checkered grips, I like the look some don't

No the originals were never casehardened nor did they have checkered grips but since when did originality stop Pietta? BTW the casehardening probably isn't real either.

Everybody did nickel later on Don't believe any of the C&B's were nickeled. the Remington C&B's were never case hardened. Now the 75's may have been but those were cartridge guns.

Does the ss ever go on sale for less than 330$ at Cabela's. SS is what i want just 100$ more --gees dont know. The blued one looks better, but ss i use at work is tough stuff. May need more than one anyways. Second one being new Ruger ROA

Stainless steel used in guns is softer. It'll scratch pretty easily but then on the flip side they buff out easily too.

Yeah, they've been on sale for a while now and I nearly pulled the trigger on one! I've already got a case hardened/charcoal blued Uberti however so I figured I was full up on inauthentic 1858s.
Nice looker it is however! Cheers, Oly |

1858
I pulled the trigger and ordered one today. I've had my eye on it awhile. May have to change the grips thou. I think the blueing will have to go on the barrel and the cylinder. It will probably be antiqued, that will be interesting with the CC frame.

I didn't think so either, until ... http://www.fontainesauction.net/cgi/...=90207&lot=504 Maybe the plating isn't original. Hard to tell. |

First case hardened 1858 Remington
I reviewing research the other day I ran across Case Hardened Remington New Model Army being offered for sale in the Dixie Gun Works catalogs in 1960-61. Unfortunatly I have never seen one this old. Learn something new everyday.

Don't mean to nit-pick, but these arn't the same guns...
This is for the blued/non-checkered grip model. The case hardened/checkered grips are still on sale for $220 at the website though. |
