Semi-glossing a high gloss stock

It's one of those space age finishes on a Browning lever action (older model).

I tried Wet or Dry 1500 grit but that's too coarse. It just dulls it completely.

I'm looking for something to just take the high gloss off while allowing it to continue to shine.

Try an even finer grit.

An Auto Body shop supplier should have them, or get a plastic repair kit.

If you have a woodworking supply shop near you, you can buy rottenstone, it will dull off the gloss finish just the right amount. If you cannot find it locally, you can buy it from Brownells.
