Help with butt material??

Hi,

I make stocks for this Finnish Mosin target rifle, and am having trouble finding buttstock ends for them. The material used by the finns is sort of thin stick-on material with checkering. I would like to find this type of material but would also be fine with an extra-tall generic plastic end piece that can be trimmed down. I have searched brownells and midway for one tall enough, but it has to be just over 7" in height! Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know of a source of the exact material, but Champion Shooter's Supply sells checkered Neoprene rolls for elbow and shoulder patches on shooting jackets and shooting mats that could be cut out and put on with contact cement.

If you want something closer to Bakelite and that is tough, you can make a plaster mold off the one you have and cast a replacement from Devcon Flexane 90. They also make Flexane 80, but that's more like a firm rubber. These are two-part black polyurethane products. 80 and 90 refer to their durometer hardness when set.
