Federal 223 Brass

I have brass with Federal and 223 Rem making up the head stamp. Between 223 and Rem is a small round indentation. It is similar to the circle with the cross seen on military brass but it does not have the cross. Is this military brass? Does it have crimped primers?

You will just have to look and see if there is an indentation around the primer pocket, or post a picture...

If you can see a flat head with taper into the primer pocket, then the primer isn't crimped.
If the there is a ring around the primer and the pocket doesn't have a radius, it's crimped.

Sounds like the government production contract brass, which was crimped.
Homeland purchased 3.2 Billion rounds for 'Cililian' law enforcement agencies,
That ammo is head stamped 223 Rem,
BUT,
It's all crimped, primers & bullets, and it's all sealed to military specification.

Jeephammer,

Thanks. Only 3.2 billion rounds eh? Doesn't sound like enough.
