Looking for good Spotting Scope & Rangefinder
Im looking for a good spotting scope and a rangefinder for long range shooting - 1000+ yards. I was looking at the Leupold SX1 Ventana 20-60x80mm Angled for glass and for the rangefinder using the Bushnell ARC 1600 Binoculars. Just curious to see what you guys are using to spot out targets and determine range up to and past 1000 yards away.

I have a Konus Konuspot 80 which is also a 20-60x80mm scope. It is roughly half the price of the model you are looking at. I have been VERY happy with mine and have heard from people in the local government agencies that seem to spend without concern that the Konuspot 80 is the equal of the Kowa 80mm scopes. I personally haven't looked through any other 80mm scopes, but I can say that you are on the right track going with an 80 ... the clarity and light gathering of mine is vastly superior to anything in a 60mm scope at ANY price.
My experience is that consistent real world performance at >1000 yds is a challenge for most civilian laser rangefinders, no matter what the model number implies. If you really need that long range performance, I would try to buy it from a place that will let you return it if you aren't happy ... Saands |
