An interesting nuance to Government shutdowns

The gist is that HUD made its officers turn in their weapons. They also forbade them to carry personal weapons with their credentials. They could carry if they had state licenses or permits. Other federal agencies did not do this. Officers were concerned as they deal with bad guys - they might run into some that they have previously interacted with. Of course the bureaucratic mind was more concerned with liablity. President Obama and Shotgun Joe refused to intervene.

It's especially ironic as I would think they're classified as essential and/or law enforcement.

The shutdown was pure political theater orchestrated by folks on both sides of the aisle. What is shameful is that real people could or possibly did get hurt as a result of their gamesmanship.
