22 Magnum help

I am looking to get my hands on a Ruger single six 22lr/mag convertable with the 9.5 in barrel. What magnum shells do you think I could use for the best accuracy? Are there any loads that would be better than others for close range V.S. ~50yds?

I generally use the CCI magnums with my SS with a 6 1/2" barrel. Honestly, I don't put a lot of time and effort researching .22WMR's for this guns since I bought it as a "cheap to shoot" plinker and at $10/50 for the magnums, it costs almost as much to shoot as my 9mm! But for those times you just want a little extra kick, the CCI's from, of all places, Wal-Mart do just fine. There is a difference in accuracy between these and the standard bulk pack .22LR's, but the gun is still more accurate than me.

I had a S & W M-48 (made in 1960) that only liked Federal 50 gr hp's and absolutely nothing else. my current M-48 (made in 1965) likes the Hornady ammo the best with a strong second to Winchester 40 gr hp's. it doesn't like the Federal 50 gr hp's at all. try different brands and find out

I've enjoyed the wmr cartridge for about 40 years, owned a lot of different rifles and pistols that were chambered for it. I can't think of one that didn't like the original wmr cartridge - the Winchester SuperX 40gr. I still keep in stock more of that type than any other.
