Left handed AR15 options?

Hey folks! Long time TFL visitor, finally decided to join and now I have something to post for once. My brother is left handed and has recently been looking into the AR platform. Just browsing he has found a Stag which appears to be a righty gun configured to left handed. The other option we've found is a RRA which appears to be specically made for leftys. So my question is... any one know about any other options? Price isn't much of an issue at this stage, just looking at options. Any help would be greatly appreciated

The only models I know of are the Stags... if RRA has a lefty AR, that's pretty new.

Basically the difference is a different upper receiver where the ejection port swings upward (mirror imaged in all other respects from a regular upper) and a bolt carrier also mirror imaged so the bolt can be installed essentially upside-down from the right hand config.

Stag has been at the lefty AR thing for a while and I don't hear any issues with them, so I'd probably go that direction.

If if were me, I would just learn to shoot the right handed gun.

Almost every gun out there that you will ever pick up with be right handed.

Training yourself to use a non-standard rifle could get him in trouble if he ever has to use one that isn't setup the same has his.

Not to mention, not all parts will work on left handed models.

But if that is something he is willing to live with, Stag has been doing left handed models the longest.

Well thanks guys, we've been looking pretty hard and hadn't found a whole lot. My brother has tried multiple times to shoot with right side dominance... just has a hard time with it. Not to mention he shoots damn well left handed

. I think I will suggest he goes the stag route because its cheaper. The RRA did sound intriguing... IIRC they even switched the rotation direction with the barrel rifling. Not sure what that changes... lol

Just so you know.

You can shoot an AR left handed.

It really isn't a problem.

I do it all the time.

It helps if you have ambi controls, but they aren't needed.

Hmmm.... casings ejecting across your face don't bother you at all? That was his number one reason for looking for a left hand specific rifle. Based on his experience shooting right 10/.22's

I'm left handed and shoot a right handed AR. I don't have a problem with brass hitting me. That's what the deflector is for. I also like the controls. Shoot a right handed AR for a bit and it gets easy

HA! Alright thanks for the input! Guess i'll just tell little bro to MAN UP and get whatever AR he wants..regardless left or right handed.

Nope. Doesn't bother me at all.

The ability to shoot on your "off shoulder" is a very important skill to develop.

As long as you are focusing on the front sight or target (if you have a RDS) you won't even notice the shell casings.

The deflector will keep them from hitting you.

I'm a lefty and shoot left handed. I also have 3 AR's and have no issues with brass hitting me while shoot them.

just get him a standard AR-15 and get used to it.

thats the good thing about the AR-15, it can be used on either side.

the lack of parts commonality is not worth it on the left handed guns.

left handed guns require proprietary bolts and carrier which IMO just is not worth the trade off. one good thing about the AR-15 is that the parts all go together.

If he wants a left handed one, get a left handed one. Life is too short to not get what you want if you can. Enough other stuff we have to put up with.

This is not the US Army or Marine Corp that you have to standardize.

Stag does for sure and did not know RRA does a left.

I like RRA for quality, but Stag is in the same range quality (maybe not quite as good a fit). Given the choice I would go with RRA (they have a great trigger and upgrade to the chrome one and its sweet).
