RL-22 and IMR4831 For the .257 Weatherby
I am trying to work up loads for my .257 Weatherby using IMR4831 and RL-22. The bullets are the Barnes 100 grain TSX and the Hornady 100 grain soft point. I don't have manuals for either bullet so any help would be awesome. Thanks.

I don't have data on the Barnes bullet.
The Hornady manual says to seat their 100 grain SP to 3.075" COL in the 240 Weatherby. In a Weatherby brand case, their listed IMR 4831 starting load is 44.5 grains, and their listed maximum is 49.3 grains. Your cases and gun may be different. They list RL-19 as having a starting load of 44.3 grains and a maximum at 48.6 grains, and they list RL-25 with a starting load of 52.4 grains and a maximum of 56.9 grains. Obviously RL-22 will be somewhere in between, but is not listed. QuickLOAD shows the RL-19 and RL-25 starting loads generating about 39 KPSI and 48 KPSI, respectively. If we split the difference and plug in RL-22, we get 43.5 KPSI, and QuickLOAD predicts 48.4 grains of RL-22 will generate that pressure in a SAMMI minimum chamber. So, that is likely a good starting load. You will want to work up carefully from there, watching for pressure signs.

I don't want to sound ungrateful but Unclenick, I'm looking for the .257 Weatherby, not .240 Weatherby. Also I can't quite decipher the last post. What are the 61 and 67 grain loadings, Sir. Are they starting and max for the mentioned bullet with RL-22? Does you're manual list the TSX? Thanks for helping either way. The TSX is hard to find info for. I could start with the low end of you're charges and work up from there until max. I appreciate any help. Maybe someday I can return the favor. I also know a few things.

jsr76,
Sorry, my mind must have passed gas between reading and composing the post (which I did offline). I guess you'll just have to buy an additional rifle. For the .257 Weatherby Magnum, the Hornady book puts the 100 grain .257 soft point in a Weatherby brand case and using a Federal 215 primer at a COL of 3.185" as: IMR 4831: Starting Load: 53.5 grains Maximum Load: 62.4 grains RL-22: Starting Load: 59.9 grains Maximum Load: 67.3 grains jde650, Does the Barnes manual have COL and primer and case brand listed?
