Sig 400 Elite is one hot gun!
Took the Sig 400 Elite to range today. I've mounted a scope on it and was getting seriously tight groups at 25 yards just leaning up against the side of the range booth. Gotta go out where I can shoot farther and off a sand bag. But after 120 rounds the titanium coated shroud was very hot, especially right about what my left hand naturally gripped it. May want to install a grip of some kind. Also, I thought it would shoot a little more smoothly than my previous AR15, an M&P M15, but it didn't. Are all AR's a kind of crash, bang cacophony of shooting?

All the AR's I've had seen to cycle and sound similar unless I change recoil springs and/or buffers. I have one or two that like the strike industries flat wound spring, but have another with some kind of wound multi-strand spring...Gieselle maybe? And I think i vaguely remember seeing a silent buffer somewhere...hydraulic maybe. Not sure. I prefer the simple, reliable, noisy buffers.

They are all loud, its like the rifle version of a Remington 1100; to the shooter the spring and bolt are louder than the actual shot. It'll smooth out as you keep shooting it but the noise won't. To me it is comforting, I know when the magazine runs dry because it sounds incredibly different and I don't feel the bolt go forward.

I must be weird. I don't notice the spring/buffer making any noise on any of my AR's, but on my Just Right Carbine it's oingo boingo every time.

Prof Young, both are carbine length gas systems. Both probably also have a standard carbine buffer and spring.
Until you start adding different buffers, springs, muzzle devices, or adjustable gas blocks, both will feel practically identical.
