Repair my 1858 Remington
I hope you all can help. I lost the- loading lever retainer- on my Pietta 1858 44 cal. I bought a new one to replace it. How is the new one installed? Should I take it to a gun smith? Thanks.
I was to post a photo, but lost the charger to camera. |

It sounds like you need a keeper, losing all that stuff.
The spring loaded retainer, near the muzzle of the barrel, is held onto the loading lever by a small pin, that fits through vertically. The part that attaches to the bottom of the barrel fits into a dovetail slot. Or it could be silver soldered on, depending on the manufacturer or past repairs. Here's a parts view: http://www.docstoc.com/docs/41019484...Remington-1858 Or you can use the every popular hose clamp.
