Which sights for bear defense....okay fine for zombies too.

Id like to pack a (Canadian Legal) 14" 870P with me for angry bear interdiction as a strictly just in case/fun excuse to get good with a shotgun.

In such a situation I wouldnt be sniping from 100 yards, prolly very scared and shooting within 50. Do rifle sights make sense?

My instinct is to go with the bead but opinions welcome!

For a shotgun, a CCO is your best option. Otherwise you really only need iron sights. Then again I don't know much about canadian laws. If you're really set on rifle scopes, go with something low powered.

In that situation most people don't see the sights. The bear is already close enough and moving fast enough that aiming carefully will kill you not the bear. Get the sight you want for your fun activities and practice with it enough that shots at 25 yards and less are instinctive. And carry pepper spray.

If you want to train, get good, and have fun than get ghost ring sights. They are very nice peep sights, and will be very fun to practice with. In a situation with a bear (or zombie

) you are going to want to have quick target acquisition, so a scope wouldn't be the best.

im thinkin' bead- mainly cause Id have to put ghost rings on my shotgun and 90% of my shotgunning is shooting at clays. I just need to find some cheap slugs up here in Canada maybe 100 or so to get my confidence up.

Good morning Rustle in the Bushes, I would not want any thing less than my own Buck & Slug load or Buck & Ball load, time to start loading your own, start low and gradually come up with the powder charge and practice at the range blowing water filled bottles till you can hit it without raising the gun from your hip at 15 to 20 yards!

If you do not have the Lyman 525 Slug mold then use a .678 Round ball in wad!

those darker nitro cards are much harder in between so be sure to use them

Check your total payload weight, lets say your payload is 1 3/4 Oz then use 1 7/8 OZ shot load data or even 2 Oz shot load data for safety!

I wish you a lot of fun at the range before you venture out into the woods with angry bears!
