Barrel pitting single barrel shotgun

I picked up a stevens 94 12 ga shotgun today. The barrel close the the chamber( OR possibly part of the chamber) is some what pitted. in my opinion it is not terrible, if I put my finger in I can feel it. Do you think its safe to shoot?

Get someone to put a scope in it, to see how deep the pits are. If they're shallow, you can hone it, and shoot it. The 94 had a pretty thick chamber wall, and if its back that far, I would say its all right.

You might want to fire it remotely a bunch of times before deciding if it's still safe.

This brings up a good point. I know how I have done this and would like to hear from others on how they do it. Can't say that I'd consider my way, the safest. .....

I shoot on a farm, and we have a shooting table for long distance stuff, I plan on tying it to the table and then tying a rope on the trigger and standing a few feet away lol

I've used a tire, with the stock inside the bead and the barrel laying on the top of the opposite side wall.
The gun and tire will have to be quite close to the backstop, though.
And use a really long string.
Or better yet, con someone else into doing it.

A makeshift way that I have seen, was strapping down a gun to a large tire, laying flat, and rigging up something to pull the trigger remotely. The rubber tire takes the recoil, and actually allows some movement, so it isn't recoiling against a solid stop.

However, there are some new shooting vises, with spring recoil mechanisms, and dampeners, that will do the same way. You just stand back, and fire them remotely.
