155 gr bullets for 30 Carbine Blackhawk
I’ve been working on developing a heavy load for my 30 Carbine Blackhawk but hadn’t working on it of late. But then I got a LabRadar for Christmas! So I took my Blackhawk out today.
I’m loading 11 grains of H110 with a 155 grain cast bullet. Fired 50 rounds and got an average of 1265 FPS. That actually exceeded my expectations. I needed to get above 1200 FPS with the 1:20 twist rate to maintain stability out to 50 yards. BTW, I didn’t see any signs of excessive pressure. |

Anyone else experiment with heavy loads for the 30 Carbine?

I’ve been trying to duplicate the results found in Paco’s Long Range Load For the .30 Carbine Blackhawk.
I believe the limit to this is to be found in the 11-12 grains of H110. I suspect that anything above 12 grains of H110 will result in excessive pressure levels. I’m considering going to 11.5 grains. Opinions? Last edited by jski; January 3, 2020 at 12:33 AM. |

This has been a goal of mine someday. There really isn’t much “ruger only” load data out there for the 30 carbine. Where are you finding 155 gr bullets? My plan was to use a 110 gr cast hp from GT bullets.

A 155 is too long for the .30 Carbine. I'd be surprised if there's enough space in the case. A 155 grain Scenar being 1.291" long and the Trim-to for .30 Carbine being 1.286".
The question is where are you getting proper data? Paco Kelly not being a proper manual, but rather just some guy on the Internet.
