Anyone load up .224 Barnes triple shocks

in their .223/5.56mm rifles, in the 70 grain version, and had good results with a 1 in 9 twist? The triple shock is the all-copper bullet. The 70 is the heaviest of the 3 offered in .224. Barnes says that the 62 grainer is recommend for 1:7 to 1:9, but the 70 grainer is recommended only with 1:7 to 1:8. I think this would be a very nice all purpose bullet, and would tempt me to buy the dies for 5.56 if I thought that they might shoot well in a 1 in 9" barrel. My barrel is a bushmaster 20" BTW.

I'd go with the 62. I shoot a 22-250, and from all the advice I got, I was told not to use the 70 gr. unless I had a 1 in 10 and better in a 1 in 8. Keep in mind, the solid copper bullets are lighter and require a greater length to get equivelant weight. The longer the bullet, the more twist required to stabalize. In other words, A 70 gr. barnes is going to be longer that a 70 gr. jacketed bullet, thus requiring more twist to stabalize. If you want a heavier bullet, go with one of the new jacketed bullets that are loaded with tungston. You can get the weight without the additional twist requirment.

Triple Shock

barnes says that the 63 gr bullet needs a fast twist bbl, **This bullet is for use in a 1:7" through 1:9" twist barrel only.**
and their 70gr **This bullet is for use in a 1:7" or 1:8" twist barrel only.**

I tried their 53 gr and the accuracy sucked. The bullet is too expensive to justify extensive load development.

Dang, I was talking just off the top of my head. That bullet must be REALLY LONG. Much longer than I suspected.
