Why is it...

that the trigger guard is on the bottom side of a rifle while the trigger is on top?

I think that he meant to say that the hammer was on the top, especially since the triggers of that gun are located on the under side of the stock.

I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt and think that it was just a slip of the tongue. However, in his shoes, I would have pulled the video from YouTube by now.

There are 2 triggers according to this guy! One on top and one on the bottom! All this time I thought the bent thingy on top was a hammer!

I thought the hammer part designed for your thumb action is called the cock, or spur.

While some folks might tell someone to "cock the cock", most folks would probably say to "cock the hammer".
To say "cock the cock" sort of sounds like double talk (or mumbo jumbo).

Definition of Cock:

Quote:
4. (in a firearm)

a. the part of the lock that, by its fall or action, causes the discharge; hammer.

b. the position into which the cock, or hammer, is brought by being drawn partly or completely back, preparatory to firing.

–verb (used with object)
12. to pull back and set the cock, or hammer, of (a firearm) preparatory to firing.

–verb (used without object)
15. to cock the firing mechanism of a firearm.
