Would you trade?

Would you trade a SW1911 108282 (pre e-series) for a Springfield Range Officer 1911? Why or why not?

Thanks!

I'd rather have the Springer any day.

I don't think I'd give up a gun with which I was familiar, that works properly, for one that may or may not be a suitable replacement.

I'm not a fan of proprietary parts on "1911" pistols, so I'd always go for the more-G.I. gun - in this case, the Springfield - but if you already have the Smith, and you like it, why trade?

If you prefer the adjustable sights of the RO, it's easy to swap out the fixed sight on the Smith and replace it with something adjustable.

I'm also no fan of the "we ran out of matching parts" look that Smith favors on their pistols, so just for looks, I prefer the Springfield.

EDIT: Springfields haven't been made in Brazil for about three years, so there shouldn't be a concern of foreign v. domestic.

I have one of each. My S&W is the model that immediately followed the billboard model. It has been 100% reliable and extremely accurate.

I have a Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Loaded .45 ACP Parkerized. So far, it's been 100% reliable and accurate.

SA hasn't made their 1911's in Brazil for years. They're made in the USA.

Were it me, I'd stick with an S&W 1911 & buy an SA1911-A1 later. They're both great guns.

One 1911 for another 1911. Sounds good to me.

You'd be trading one clone with roughly the same MSRP for another. Where the thing is made is irrelevant.

I'm not sure what you'd be gaining, so probably no.

I say that this is an interesting trade scenario. I must agree that the best choice is to keep the S&W and work towards picking up a Range Officer to add to your stable.

There are things I like about both pistols. I believe that outside of the Performance Center... the 1911 in question is the best 1911 that S&W made, a fine looking and well-built pistol. Accurate also.

The Range Officer is a very accurate pistol with excellent sights. I personally do not care for the finish they used on them but the pistol is a very good gun. Serious Bullseye shooters constantly recommend them as the cheapest capable pistol, out of the box and they also recommend them as a fine starting base for a custom Bullseye pistol.

Intangible: all it takes to get a Range Officer is cash. The S&W in question is out of production so you'd need money AND need to find one.

No question here. The S&W is the superior pistol.

I would vote no on this trade, I see Springfield 1911's all over the place, I dont see S&W 1911's verry often. I also dont see anything being gained, the real question here is why does the other guy want to trade?

No I like the S&W 1911, plus S&W is a better company.

I had a Springfield ss loaded 1911 and the slide got messed up, ( long story ) Anyway I called Springfield to purchase a new slide only, no barrel. They told me, what in essence would cost almost the price of a new gun, I couldn't believe it, so as far as I'm concerned Springfield sucks and I'll never buy anything they make nothing.

Thanks all for the great information. Just to clarify (and not that it matters), but the SW1911 108282 model I have is the "smaller logo" version that they went to when the moved away from the larger billboard roll print. Thanks again!

I have a SW1911 108282 (pre e-series) and I like mine, I would not trade mine for a Springfield Range Officer.

Exactly.

At least S&W has a little more time (and new ownership) since the last time they tried to screw American gunowners by supporting anti-2nd Amendment legislation.

The same cannot be said of Springfield.

S&W may be a better company, but I've had much better luck with Springfield Armory products than S&W.

I really like and prefer Springfield 1911s, but if you like your S&W I wouldn't make that trade.

Gosh, this choice is very subjective. I dislike external extractors on 1911's, but I dislike the company Springfield more.

I guess I would keep the SW.

Good luck with whatever you choose

I have both around here, and it's tit for tat. I love the S&W, but the Springfield is good stuff too.
