AR hoarding slowing down
My local Cabela's has over 60 AR's on hand now. Looks like the hording is slowing down. Now if ammo would just catch up!

I've noticed that in the last few days. Some of the online vendors starting to have small batches of ARs in stock that don't immediately disappear.
Looks like pricing I've seen at Bud's and CDNN is maybe $200 higher than before the panic. Nothing like the outrageous prices being charged just three weeks ago or so. |

I sold my Rock River carbine, at a gun show, when prices were up.
$1,130.00 with two magazines, it was perfect. But my Steyr AUG in 5.56, great. My AK 47, in 7.62X39, I have two good caliber's. Never could get used to cocking a Rifle by jacking the charging handle over my shoulder. |

The local Wally World had three of the Colt AR carbines at $1059 each. I believe these were the LE-6290 models? Anyway, one guy was buying all three of them. No ammo to be had for them tho. Also appeared that the three guns were shipped with 20 round magazines.

The gun panic is pretty much over with the death of most of the dangerous bills in congress. Ammo will take a bit longer to come back.

I'm not in the market for another complete AR but I have been waiting and hoping for lower receiver prices to come down. I wanted to build another AR pistol (or two) and it would be nice to have a dedicated lower for my .22 upper.

Inventory is coming back but prices are still to high.
When/If I see Colt's @ $1200 and SIG's, RRA's, Bushy's, etc @ $1000 in quantity then I will be ready to say "its over". I predict we are going to have a second "mini" shortage as soon as this happens from all the people who have been holding off buying new "evil black rifles". This may be lessened by the people who are forced to sell their $1000 EBR's that they purchased for upwards of $2000. The used gun market is going to be real good come mid to late summer and as we approach Christmas and people need money to put presents under the tree.

Just weeks ago our shop was giving out tickets for people in line. They had at least 15 ARs in stock the other day of various brands. They never jacked up the prices but they did have to follow the market so they were a little higher than pre panic. The market will be flooded with them before long. I see the prices going back to normal in the coming months.

I'd say +$200 is about right. Even at that, ARs are still sitting on the shelves, not moving. Uppers and lowers are readily available online and ammo, although still priced higher, is showing up again.

Just my opinion but the buyers may be slacking off simply because they don't want to spend big bucks on a rifle that they can't get ammo or mags for. This week I received an upper that had been ordered over 3 months ago but the mags that have been on back order for a similar time are still not here.

One of my LGS' has literally 200 DPMS stripped lowers in their case, and i sincerely hope they dont sell a single one at $259.99, i repeat, STRIPPED DPMS LOWER $259.99. I went to my friend "do you think thats a joke?" the lady behind the counter over heard this and took a snippy attitude and said "try to find one somewhere else for any less." I said thanks for the advice and walked straight out, never to return.

Friend of mine picked up a Palmetto State Armory M4 yesterday for $800. No idea what they were priced at pre-panic, but that seems like a reasonable deal.

The hoarders and panic buyers didn't slow down, they just ran out of money. No different then when Big O got elected the first time. Shelves went bare of black guns for about 6 months and ammo came back in 9-12 months. Seems that .22 is the last to be resupplied on the shelves just like last time.
Oh and just like last time, all the panic buyers that paid 2x-3x the normal price for something they dont even know how to use just because they thought it was going to turn into some majical million dollar investment. Now they don't want to part with it for a penny less then they paid for it so the used gun market will be screwed up to the point that a new gun is cheaper then the used one for the next three years. |

I think what we are seeing is anyone who was even remotely thinking about buying a AR-15 has now done so. The demand just isn't there like it was, but that's not to say that popularity isn't going to continue to grow.

Walked into the local Gander Mountan Gunstore here yesterday hoping to pick up a rear sight for an AR, and was VERY surprised to see a complete selection of AR's at more or less normal prices. A reasonable selection of manufacturers and options, as well.
Stripped lowers will take more time to come down in price, I think, as the ease of hoarding and storing them, and the lower "investment" price as compared to a complete rifle is less, making them a more attractive item for stockpiling. When they fall back to sub-$100 prices and .22 ammo is on the shelf, we will know that the great gun panic of 2013 is over at last. The money supply able to be applied toward buying everything built is not infinate, and the market will correct itself. There are only so many spare $1500 dollar bills in the hands of the shooters. Pricing is driven by supply and demand.
In this case, patience truly is a virtue.

We knew it would happen- it was just a matter of when.
Just wait 'till all the guys that spent three grand on a $900 AR, and $750 for a $250 SKS decide to unload them at a loss because they "had to have them" out of fear, but really didn't "need" them. Lowers are readily available now at sub-$200 prices- and I bet it won't be long before they're back down close to the $100 range again. Unlike other components, manufacturers could "sub out" milling of receivers to practically any machine shop with a high-end CNC and then finish them off. Probably much easier to ramp up supply to almost any level through outsourcing.

I found a DPMS striped lower for $189 at a LGS. That is current MSRP and when it was still there the next day and I had the money in my pocket, I picked it up. I know it was too high but I have waited so long! The next day, I found out PSA had a blem in stock for $100. To bad my LGS wouldn't take the return! Didn't PSA blems used to got for $60? Another LGS has the same DPMS lower for $199. When I asked if they knew it was over MSRP I just got a shoulder shrug... I feel like I saved $10! |

The local shop up the road had about 10 of them sitting in a rack the other day. I thought that was a good sign since people were lining up to buy them the other month.
I didn't really care enough to look at the price, but I will be watching armslist this summer for when hordes get broke and start selling small mountains of ammo for a loss. |

I made a bit of a run and went to three different gun shops this weekend: Results as follows:
Shop #1: Availability of non colt AR's was good, prices 200-300 higher than before the insanity. STILL no 9MM target ammo, very very limited 9MM hollow point ammo, all other ammo was there but expensive with limits of what you can buy. Non 1911's were in short supply in the semi auto pistol cases. Shop #2: Had a good mix of AR's available, even a Colt LE6920 for $1250! WOH! Ammo was up but available Shop #3: Had a LOT of AR's available for $100-$200 above pre-insanity prices. Plenty of all types of ammo for about 1.75-2 times what it was 6 months ago but only had Hollow Point 9MM ammo @ about $40.00/50 rounds In conclusion 9MM ammo is in very short supply AR's are getting back in stock Its a good day to shoot oddball calibers. Still having problems finding magazines
